The team at X-treme is always up for a challenge! This time it was a very special one ...
The question came from the Danish globally known shipping company Evergas, one of the world's leading suppliers of petrochemical gases and natural gas liquids, whether it was feasible for our team to decorate a gas tanker with 1200 m² of vinyl labeling produced by purveyor Michael Gronbech of Viskilter!
"Yes we can!" Was the answer immediately when the team was presented with this exceptional intervention!
Product groups: Large format print 2D
Applications: Art and Design Corporate branding
Briefing:
The first briefing from our customer was short but urgent: An immense dragon of about 60m long had to be placed on each side of the ship's bow. Also 6 large flags had to be applied on both sides of the stern of the ship.
Quite a challenge, especially if you know that the deadline was (again, how could it be otherwise) very short and that on top of that, the ship was anchored at the shipyard in the port of Dalian in northern China!
Project:
Each of the 14 ships that sail under the flag of Ineos (Ineos leases the ship through a chartering agreement with Evergas.) is always equipped with a personalized dragon, so this new ultramodern gas tanker of the Type-C 85K VLEC, which was given the name JS INEOS MARLIN, should not be left behind!
The King of the East Sea dragons had to be applied on the steel base of the ship that also had a slope of about 45°, so the necessary climbing harnesses, cords, helmets, etc had to be used!
Not only the slope but also the weather conditions during the application of the stickers created challenges for the 6-member team of X-Treme! At the time of application, the temperature flirted daily with the freezing point, there was a very high humidity and it was often very foggy in the port of Dailan.
No sinecure to deliver a good result under time pressure.
Logistics is also a challenge in China, but the experience and enthusiasm of the team ensured smooth progress and perfect results!
After this first mastodont Evergas started the complete makeover of their fleet of 8 smaller gas carriers (still 180m in length). The 5 year old vessels got a full technical maintenance, a whole new paintjob, and of course a new dragon.
This servicing happens in drydock, but because of a complicated time schedule for the first vessel of this series, the team had to work on anchorage in Skagen, the most northern point of Denmark. Working on a ship at sea, even hanging from the hull was a different but interesting experience!
Doing the same job in different seasons comes with big changes in working conditions, going for very comfortable to extreme. This demands adaptations and flexibility, but luckily that is exactly what the team excels at.
ROI:
Evergas is not only one of the largest players in the field of gas transport worldwide, the company is also very committed to the ecological field with the aim of making gas transport simple and safe and to set new standards for efficient and sustainable gas transport on sea!
By providing branding on the ship, each ship gets its own identity and Evergas as well as Ineos creates a greatly increased visibility and recognition of the ships within the ports!
The owner of the ship is the Englishman Jim Ratcliffe who also owns the INEOS Grenadiers cycling team, and is the newest player in the extreme offroad vehicle industry.
At the official inauguration of the JS Ineos Marlin in Houston, Texas, "godmother" and daughter-in-law Aimée Ratcliffe were personally present.
We would like to thank Evergas again for the fantastic ongoing collaboration and the magnificent model of the JS INEOS MARLIN, which is now showing off at our office! Feel free to come and take a look at our offices based in Zaventem.
