The Yellow Submarine Project was a unique one. The customer needed a long term solution to attract visitors and build excitement at the location.
The architect’s office, NHP, discovered that an inflatable is a perfect tool for the long term improvement of sites and events. The project lasted for three years on a permanent basis. When asked why X-Treme Creations and the inflatable solution was chosen during the negotiations, the client simply answered 'No other company would have taken this project to a good ending'.

Briefing
For the opening of the Beatlemania Museum in the centre of Hamburg, Ivo Muschik of the architects’ office NHP , partnership of the client FKP Scorpio, was tasked with providing an outdoor eye catcher.
The Reeperbahn is one of the city’s widest avenues but the entrance of the museum is very small in comparisom and can hardly be seen by the ten thousands of visitors that want to taste the ambiance of the neighbourhood where the “Fab Four” started their career on the continent in the sixties.
So, the decision was made by the customer to produce a giant inflatable submarine, from the iconic Yellow Submarine album cover, to sit above the entrance guiding visitors into the Museum.
Project
Based upon the construction plans the decision was made to permanently fix the submarine above the narrow (though 7m high) entrance tunnel to the museum. The only reference for the eye catcher is an image of the Yellow Submarine on the 1966 album cover. For security reasons and in order to guarantee the resistance to heavy winds, the inflatable was designed in Cadcam combined with an internal metallic structure produced by BSS Metalbau in Lemgo. Eventually, the inflatable submarine measured 9m high and 22m long. The yellow submarine inflatable was lit up from the inside. For thousands of tourists, it has uniquely shown the way to the Beatlemania Museum. X-Treme took care of the calculation sheet and the additional precautions to be taken in case of stormy weather.
Update
After three years in place, lighting the way for visitors across the world, the submarine was taken down as the museum closed its doors permanently due to legal issues with a Beatles band member.
